NAS / home server

There was a little discussion yesterday about building a NAS or running a home server.
I run a plex server and currently have a little over 20TB's of storage on my server. The initial set up was more complicated than I expected, but mostly because I had no clue what I was doing and figured it out as I went along.
I started with a 1u chassis (a tower would work fine also). The unit I bought is no longer in service (mine is 4 years old now and was used when I bought it).

I added hard drives as I had money. I have mine set up as a Raid 5 and have rebuilt it a few times as I've added more disks. I started with using whatever disks I had laying around but now am running WD Reds.
You can get by with a MUCH cheaper set up if you don't run a video streaming server out of your house and all you're worried about is backing up your home data. Doing this allows you to keep files off of your gaming PC and let it only worry about running games.
My current gaming PC only has the OS, and a few games on it. The OS is installed to the M.2 SSD, and the game files are installed to a normal internal HDD.
